WP 76 - Comparing different weighting procedures for volunteer web surveys

The strengths and weaknesses of web surveys have been widely described in the literature. Of particular interest is the question to which degree the obtained results can be generalised for the whole population? To deal with this problem weighting adjustments, like post-stratification and propensity score adjustment (PSA) have been seen as a possible solution. In the scientific community, however, particularly PSA has traditionally not been applied in the field of surveys, and there has been a minimal amount of evidence for its applicability and performance, and the implications are not conclusive. Against this background, the paper attempts to explore the two statistical weighting procedures for the German and Dutch WageIndicator Survey 2006. To evaluate the effectiveness of the weighting techniques in adjusting biases arising from non-randomised sample selection, the existing selection bias has been explored and the efficiency of the weights has be tested by comparing un-weighted and weighted results with those that could be found using data from the German SOEP and the Dutch OSA Panel for the same year. The results reveal that the impact of the applied weights is very limited and that the different weighting methods using balancing variables do not make web survey data more comparable to the general population. This holds for the German as well as for the Dutch sample.

Assessing the green transition priorities of SMEs: A large scale web mining approach

Colombian adaptation of the hiv and other sexually transmitted infections knowledge scale (ksi) in an adolescent population

Colombia has one of the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and teenage pregnancies among Latin American countries. Knowledge about HIV/AIDS and other STIs has been identified as a factor in promoting healthy sexual behavior. The HIV and Other Sexually Transmitted Infections Knowledge Scale (KSI) is an instrument created in Spain to assess sexual health knowledge in adolescents. In view of the lack of scales that measure this construct in Colombia, this study aims to culturally adapt and validate the KSI for the Colombian adolescent population. The sample was comprised of 866 adolescent school children (458 females and 408 males) aged between 14 and 19 years (M = 15.97, SD = 1.36) from 12 schools in the cities of Bogotá (n = 467) and Barranquilla (n = 400). Results showed good item psychometric properties and adequate discrimination and difficulty indices. Factorial analysis confirmed a five-dimensional factor structure. The indicators of validity showed significant correlations with constructs related on theoretical grounds. In sum, the study presents a valid and reliable scale for evaluating knowledge about HIV and other STIs in Colombian adolescent population

The experience of augmented reality (ar) in teacher training at the Universidad Nacional Open and Distancia UNAD Colombia

El presente artículo pretende dar cuenta sobre la pertinencia de abordar la apropiación de tecnologías como mediadoras del aprendizaje en la educación, y en particular con aprendizajes de tipo inmersivo donde la Realidad Aumentada (RA), hace parte de tendencias emergentes que han potenciado estos nuevos enfoques formativos. Se presenta por tanto en el marco de una experiencia de formación de docentes de una institución de educación superior en Colombia, la reflexión acerca del fortalecimiento de estrategias de corte cognitivo y de desarrollo del pensamiento, a partir de la RA para potenciar didáctica y pedagógicamente prácticas desde el profesorado e impactar en investigación e innovación en la formación del estudiantado.This article aims to explain the pertinence of addressing the appropriation of technologies as mediators of learning in education, and in particular with immersive learning where the Augmented Reality (AR), it is part of emerging trends that have boosted these new training approaches. La investigación biomédica en España (II). Evaluación del Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria (FIS) a través de los proyectos de investigación financiados en el período 1988-1995 a centros de investigación, facultades y escuelas

En un trabajo previo, publicado en esta misma revista, los autores han estudiado los resultados generados por los proyectos de investigación financiados por el Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria (FIS) a las Instituciones Sanitarias Asistenciales (hospitales) y los procedentes de los cuestionarios de encuestas remitidos a los investigadores responsables de tales proyectos y a los directores gerentes de los hospitales en los que se realizaron los mismos. En el presente trabajo, se continúa el proceso de evaluación del FIS, centrándose la atención en la distribución de los proyectos de investigación concedidos a los centros de investigación, facultades y escuelas, y en los resultados obtenidos a través de los cuestionarios de encuesta cumplimentados por los investigadores principales pertenecientes a estas instituciones o entidades.La realización de este trabajo ha sido posible gracias a la financiación otorgada por el FIS al proyecto de investigación 96/1803.Peer reviewe

Contenidos audiovisuales y plataformas VoD en España: estudios de caso

Este libro editado en formato PDF forma parte de la colección iniciada en el año 2012 a partir de la compilación de los trabajos de investigación más destacados realizados por el estudiantado de la asignatura Estructura del mercado audiovisual, en el grado de Comunicación Audiovisual de la Universidad de Málaga. Aquí se abordan objetos de estudio relacionados con la producción y el consumo de contenidos audiovisuales desde diversas metodologías que analizan los diferentes sectores del audiovisual desde una perspectiva industrial y económica. En una disciplina en la que se estima necesaria una mayor actualización en la investigación académica, los trabajos aquí presentados presentan casos de estudio paradigmáticos del estado de la industria del audiovisual en España. Dichos textos, presentados aquí como capítulos, suponen la introducción en la investigación de estudiantes que combinan su formación académica e investigadora con su formación como profesionales en el área de la Comunicación Audiovisual. Evolving trends in the management of acute appendicitis during COVID-19 waves. The ACIE appy II study

Background: In 2020, ACIE Appy study showed that COVID-19 pandemic heavily affected the management of patients with acute appendicitis (AA) worldwide, with an increased rate of non-operative management (NOM) strategies and a trend toward open surgery due to concern of virus transmission by laparoscopy and controversial recommendations on this issue. The aim of this study was to survey again the same group of surgeons to assess if any difference in management attitudes of AA had occurred in the later stages of the outbreak. Methods: From August 15 to September 30, 2021, an online questionnaire was sent to all 709 participants of the ACIE Appy study. The questionnaire included questions on personal protective equipment (PPE), local policies and screening for SARS-CoV-2 infection, NOM, surgical approach and disease presentations in 2021. The results were compared with the results from the previous study. Results: A total of 476 answers were collected (response rate 67.1%). Screening policies were significatively improved with most patients screened regardless of symptoms (89.5% vs. 37.4%) with PCR and antigenic test as the preferred test (74.1% vs. 26.3%). More patients tested positive before surgery and commercial systems were the preferred ones to filter smoke plumes during laparoscopy. Laparoscopic appendicectomy was the first option in the treatment of AA, with a declined use of NOM. Conclusion: Management of AA has improved in the last waves of pandemic. Increased evidence regarding SARS-COV-2 infection along with a timely healthcare systems response has been translated into tailored attitudes and a better care for patients with AA worldwide
